Calculators / Rolling offset
Rolling offset calculator
For an offset that moves up and over at the same time. Enter the rise and the roll; you get the true offset, the distance between bends, the shrink, and how far to rotate the conduit.
Results
- Make two marks – apart.
- Bend both marks to –, rolling the conduit 180° between bends.
iBend Pipe handles rolled offsets with 1st or 2nd bend critical, using your bender's radius. Get the app.
How a rolling offset works
A rolling offset is a regular offset bent at an angle. The rise and the roll form the two sides of a right triangle, and the true offset is its diagonal: √(rise² + roll²). An 8″ rise with a 6″ roll is a 10″ true offset.
Once you have the true offset, it's a normal offset. Multiply it by the angle's multiplier for the distance between bends, and use the same shrink per inch.
The rotation tells you how far to turn the conduit from vertical before you bend, so the offset heads toward both the rise and the roll at once. It's the angle whose tangent is roll ÷ rise.
These numbers use the standard multiplier method. Results can differ slightly from your bender's marks.
